Abstract Removal of Cu 2+ ions from contaminated water is an important but challenging task. This study reports the synthesis a composite hydrogel two natural polysaccharides, namely, sodium alginate and chitosan, using inexpensive kaolin as raw material polyacrylamide modifier. The had high adsorption capacity selectivity for . was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy. pseudo-second-order kinetic model most suitable results, Langmuir isotherm representative sorption system. results revealed that process mainly controlled chemisorption. maximum adsorbent 106.4 mg·g −1 Therefore, this presents new perspective on application hydrogels adsorbents.
